Singapore National Day 9 Aug
August 9th, 2006 by confujinismIt was Singapore’s National Day celebration today 9th August. It’s a public holiday 0, Can I get a WHEEEEEEEE!!! It’s my first celebration & experience of a Public Holiday in Singapore since moving down here. Boy, all I can say is that the whole nation and people were out in throngs and patriotism was high in the air. Everyone was deck in their best and the nations colours Red & White……Well, Red mostly.
On Tuesday nite on the 8th, I was working late in the office (as usual). I was fortunate though this time as I was in the office to catch a quick show of fireworks coming from God knows where. It was a short and nice 10 mins spectacular display of fireworks that lit up the starry nites of the Singapore skies. Well not all of singapore, but at least the area around my office.
When I wanted to leave, I decided to take a stroll to the MRT station as opposed to my frequent travel on the FREE scheduled bus from Suntec to the City Hall MRT. Well, it wasn’t much of a hard decision to make. You see, the fucking queue for the bus was so damn long you could name a street after them people R. So it was a no brainer, walk the short distance for about 15mins. It’s good exercise so why not, right? Well i would say this time is was a 50-50 thing.
You see, the damn public holiday was right smack in the middle of the week so most people didn’t take any extra leave and couldn’t leave town (I was told that them Singaporeans love visiting their neighbour Malaysia on long holiday periods….including some weekends), so everyone was mostly out that night. It was like a freaking human jamm in every sense!!! I’ve never been bumped, elbowed, pushed, squeezed and "excuse me-ed" so many times in my life!!!
If this is just the normal route from Suntec City-City Link-City Hall MRT, I dread to think what it would be like at the other places like Orchard Road or even Clarke Quay & Boat Quay. I suddenly realised that there were actually so many people living in Singapore. Just that I have never seen ALL of them ALL at once.
Oh well, i learnt my lesson. i’ll fare better the next public holiday. Let’s hope it’s close to the end of the week, so that EVERYONE will be out of Singapore and I can enjoy some peace and tranquility while i while away my time. Having said that, all i have to show for on my first singapore public holiday is not a patriotic affair (i’m a freaking Malaysian, u see?), not a full day of activities, not a day meeting up with friends, or anything in particular at all. You see, i chose to celebrate and enjoy the day with my best hobby in the world, SLEEPING W. And mind you, i slept the whole freaking day about 15-18 hours…..ahhh ecstacy, dun u think? What better love is there then thy bed and thy pillow S.
Which bringS me now to where i am, at the fucking ungodly hour of 5am blogging about this. Why u ask? It’s coz i’ve slept too much i think, so now i’m like freaking screwed up my biological clock. So to make sure i can reset it back to sleeping at nite and staying up in the day……..i’ve got to NOT sleep until the end of the day (hopefully i’ll last that long) so that i’ll tire myself up to sleep like a log later tonite. Ahhh the wonders of dreamland awaits me.
However, for now my eyes are tiring and I’ll just catch a quick 40-winks. Ciao!
HAPPY NATIONAL DAY & HAPPY 41st BIRTHDAY TO SINGAPORE!!!
