Facebook???

Friday, January 18th, 2008

There is alot of buzz word and hype going on all around me these days about "facebook" it seems that it’s the latest social networking site to emerge on the web. Some say it’s just awesome, others paint a more neutral front and say it’s just another site then there are those who are on the ignorant front and go "face-what??".

`

`

I’ll spare myself from commenting on those ignorant beings - as they would have either never been Friendster-ised, multiply-ed, Hi5-ed, Yahoo 360-ed, Tagged & MySpace-ed before or worse never even used instant messaging from MSN, AOL, Google, Yahoo or Skype. These would belong to the way wayy wayyyy late adapters of Internet technology.

`

As a victim of multiple "are you on facebook?" inquiries being thrown at me often then not after meeting a few friends and chatting up some interesting acquaintances, I find myself pondering why the hell am I still not on facebook?? Simple, I came to the conclusion that it is just another social networking site that recently just happened to be a BUZZ & hype of many young teens & adults ranging from age group of 13-30 (rough estimate). It reminds me of the time when friendster started, I wasn’t too caught up on it back then though and wasn’t about to get myself caught up this time as well. So I took a stand and CHOOSE not to jump on the "facebook" bandwagon.

`

I realise I would have to bear the consequences of being labeled by others & my friends - as being ‘uncool’, ‘outdated’, ‘obsolete’, ‘old’, ‘antique’ and other monickers that would make me look like the Fred Flinstone living in George Jetson’s era. Oh well, call me stubborn or call me friendster loyal, just don’t physically throw yourself into these social networking site & build a life w/o human interaction. I still feel keeping in touch in reality is still important as much as keeping "in touch" in virtual reality.

`

Make no mistake that I’m not condemning facebook.com or other social networking websites, it’s just that once in a while we just have to choose…..what’s the point if you are on friendster.com, facebook.com, hi5.com, tagged.com, WAYN.com or even multiply.com ???? does all these sites provide you the security and assurance that you are cool, fashionable, rolling with the "in-crowd" by merely looking at the number of friends in your list?
Does more friends mean more coolness? In a twisted online way some do feel it is the only way to justify their existence. Well these people don’t really know that once the next fad, buzz or hyper site comes along……all that would have been for nothing coz they’ll have to repeat it all over again……it’s a vicious cycle. These people likely aren’t really your friends anyway….their just as what the site intended "online networking contacts"

`

`

As for these social networking sites in particular, look at their history & details found here:
Facebook: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook
Friendster:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendster
Multiply: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiply_%28website%29
hi5:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi5_%28Website%29

`

The rest of these major social networking sites can be found on this list:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_social_networking_websites

`

`

So there isn’t any immediate compelling reason for me to join other sites other than friendster at the moment, as I find it works just as well keeping in touch with my online friends and the real friends in my real world. At times, it’s also quite entertaining.

`

Here’s reaching out to my fellow friends on friendster, facebook & those sooo cool enough to be on both. I LOVE U ALL and Friendship forever!

`

Ok, I just fucking notice that sounded kinda lame…….Oh what the hell!

Knowledge for the restless soul

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

I’ve been reading quite a fair bit since I’ve moved to Singapore (that’s almost 21 months ago) I would consider it a healthy habit. After all knowledge is gold….only if you apply it. In retrospect, I read -YES, just like the rest of most MRT dependent Singaporeans - that’s how we kill time. It’s way better than staring the other person blankly in each other’s face early in the morning or late in the evening. It’s also I’m a cheapo and suck at console games that’s why I don’t own or plan to own a Sony PSP or Nintendo DS. I’ll stick to my trusty iPAQ which has minimal buttons and works great with just the stylus.
~
Don’t even get me started with all the fucking corny insinuating jokes about the stylus, about playing games with sticks, little sticks like stylus…stuff you can do with just poke, tap, point & play…..the list goes on.
~
My soul is a restless one and reading eases it’s constant thirst for information & knowledge. However I kinda don’t see it that way coz I’ve been reading - YES, but nearly not enough - YES, plus I’ve also been reading more on fiction. Unless fictional knowledge can be ultimately applied to give us an edge over the next fellow man……well then I guess I’m on the right track, else I’m just screwed.

Right now I’m reading Tom Clancy’s Net Force - Springboard. It’s about war on the cyber frontier. This time it’s US being attacked by the Chinese (at least up to where I’ve read so far) or it could be another faction of the Chinese govt.
Haven’t finish it yet coz I’m a book slut and also reading another book, Robert Ludlum’s The Ambler Warning. It’s also another great story about a top secret spy agent escapes from a secure mental facility and finds his very existence erased….or is he going mad? He sets out to find the truth.
~
Anyhow, reading is fun and a great habit to cultivate. So the next time I blog, it might be on a book review :)

From the ashes….

Dearly
beloved, we are all gathered here today to rejoice in the rebirth of
Confujinism. It’s a brand new year 2008, which beckons the world to
recognise more on the spread of confujinism.

Those who were loyal, you shall be rewarded.
Those in despair, rejoice once again as confujinism returns.
Those who were lost, fear not! You are now found.
Those searching, Halt! search no more for you have found it here in confujinism.

I’m contemplating moving my whole blog to a new site under blogspot, I’ve managed to setup my new site under http://confujinism.blogspot.com but it seems that if i migrate there then all my previous post here would …..well remain here…..apparently there is no way I can migrate and republish the old postings. Technology is so advance yet why does this make me feel crippled?

So this remains an important question, should I stay or should I migrate? Anyone care to feedback and advise is appreciated. Where would you guys want to see me continue? You decide…

Whichever site I decide ……………. I shall in my best efforts, continue to endeavor and deliver post after post of confujinism masterpiece

Last but not least, a very LATE MERRY X’MAS and a wonderful HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008 to all
